DIY – Orange Bitters / Krzysztof Musielak – Head of Bartenders

Today I will present you with a homemade way to make Orange Bitters (in my previous article you will find an explanation about Bitters: https://bit.ly/2Ar7l3J). Here is the recipe according to which we prepare this unique element of many cocktails:

  • three oranges without peel, cut into strips
  • ¼ cup chopped dried orange peel
  • 4 carnations
  • 8 green cardamom seeds
  • 1 tablespoon of dried artichoke leaves or ½ of gentian root
  • ¼ teaspoon for forest blueberry tea
  • 2 cups of spirits or more if you need it
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar syrup

Place all ingredients in a jar except for water and sugar syrup – make sure that all ingredients are submerged in alcohol – close the jar for two weeks and store at room temperature away from direct sunlight, shake it once in a while. After two weeks, strain the liquid through a coffee or tea filter to get rid of sediments, put it in a saucepan, add water and bring to a boil over medium heat. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool completely. Mix all ingredients together in a new jar. Leave for a week, then add sugar syrup. Stir until sugar is dissolved.

Your Orange Bitters is ready! 🙂
